New water taxi service scheduled from eastern shore to casino

UTAS staff and students who live on Hobart’s eastern shore will have a much faster and far more relaxing transport option to their traditional reliance on private vehicle or public transport in 2013.

Having recently taken possession of a high-speed, 34-seat passenger vessel, Hobart Water Taxis will introduce a new service from Bellerive to Salamanca that includes drop-offs and pick-ups at the Wrest Point Casino.

Operator Rod Howard says that the new 7.45am weekday departure from Bellerive Wharf has been added primarily to deliver students to The Hutchins School. However, he currently has room for at least another 10 passengers on that run.

The trip from Bellerive to the casino will cost $6 one-way – less with a 10- or 20-trip ticket. The Hutchins return service to Bellerive is currently scheduled for 4pm daily. Further services could be added, including a later return service after 5 pm, if the demand is there.

UTAS staff and students interested in the new service or potential services can contact Rod on 0407 036 268 or
